(handguns, some rifles) So, 13% of homicides were committed with illegal handguns and 0.7% with legal handguns. That's 4 or 5 homicides each year with legal and registered handguns* and 60 to 70 with illegal/unregistered handguns* (out of 500+ homocide s each year). *I say handguns, even though some restricted firearms are full-auto firearms (SMGs), because no registered machine guns have ever (since 1934) been used in a homocide in Canada. (So why are they restricted to the point where you can't ever own one unless you owned one before 1978?)
