To: kara Subject: hello So, I just thought I'd tell you a couple of things related to that short discussion this afternoon. I don't know if you'll find this interesting or not. Maybe you don't even want to know. In that case, just delete this. :) Yes mace is illegal in Canada. It, along with other noxious substances like pepper spray, are prohibited. The only way to get around this is to use "dog repellent" because you are afraid of being attacked by large dogs which are sometimes not tethered properly nor fenced up. Yes, we have the right to self-defense. We just don't seem to have legal access to the means. (Actually, we do, but someone has to put a test case into the courts that pits the new anti-gun laws against the right to self-defense, etc. Long story...) We also have the right to defend our homes. Long guns are unrestricted (they don't have to be registered). Handguns are restricted and must be registered. Fully-automatic weapons are allowed only if you owned one before Jan. 1, 1978. Semi-automatics are not prohibited. Restricted weapons cannot leave their registered address without a conveyance permit (which allows one-time transport or point-to-point transport). It is next to impossible to get a carrying permit even if you have appropriate training. They just don't give them out (except to police and certain types of "security" people). There. I'm done. I tried to just state the facts and keep my opinions to myself. :) sa
