Recreational Firearms Community (RFC) Boycott Information and Updates

The Complete List of Contributors to the Liberal Party of Canada (1995) is here! Please download this list of more than 7.4 million dollars from over 5000 contributors and distribute it as widely as possible! *Source: Registered Political Parties Fiscal Period Returns For 1995 (Although the list was checked several times, errors are possible since the list was typed in by hand.)

Introduction

THIS INITIATIVE IS ENTIRELY VOLUNTARY. Participate as you wish. The information here is provided to help you.

NOTE: The aim is not to hurt individual businesses, that is why we encourage everyone to contact the head offices, as well as your local store's manager/owner. THE ECONOMY WILL NOT SUFFER AS WE WILL SIMPLY TAKE OUR BUSINESS TO STORES THAT DON'T HELP THE LIBERALS. (If anything, small "mom and pop" stores will benefit.)

For the boycott to work, the head offices must be informed. Companies will find it it easy to get off our Naughty List and back into our Good Book: stop contributing to the Liberal Party of Canada. We will not shop at businesses that share their profits with political parties that attack us, our freedoms, our hobbies, our livelihoods, and our culture.

The final goal is to "clean up" politics by encouraging businesses to stop all political contributions. Since businesses can't vote, they should not have influence through money. Individuals cannot compete with the kinds of funds businesses have. Companies tend to donate the largest sums to the parties in power. If they were truly interesting in encouraging democracy, the smaller parties would get the most funding to help them get their messages out to Canadians.

Updates:

As of 10 April 1996:

I have received a letter from Mr. B C Grose, Vice-President of Hudson's Bay Company, regarding publication of the Bay's donation to the Liberal Party.

In it, he informs us that the Bay's Board of Directors passed a resolution in 1995 to the effect that the Bay would discontinue making political contributions.

The NFA applauds the Bay's decision. In our opinion, corporate money donated to a political Party dilutes the relationship between the citizen and the Party. Citizens should have influence with the Party; corporations should not.

The NFA is pleased to recommend that anyone currently boycotting the Bay return to normal relations with the Bay.

Dave Tomlinson, NFA

As of 13 March 1996:

By the end of February we know over 1.4 MILLION dollars will have left Liberal supporting financial institutions, with many people and organizations ready to follow when loans and deposits mature. Exact amounts are hard to ascertain as many people do not divulge their personal finances. One anonymous woman told us that she planned to match the donations her bank makes to the Liberals with withdrawals, until she has removed all of her family money from a bank they have dealt with for three generations.

Some Canadian and American businesses have been requesting a complete list of Liberal supporting companies and have indicated they may look for firearm-friendly alternatives. We have advised them to buy the extensive list for $55.00 from Elections Canada 1-800-463-6868 for their own requirements. Individual contribution lists for MPs can also be obtained from Elections Canada. Resentment is at an all-time high toward the Liberal gun haters and requests for local Liberal MPs financial supporters is overwhelming.

News of the RFC boycott has reached the United States via North America Hunting magazine Jan/Feb 1996 issue. Requests for complete packages of the RFC boycott arrive daily from everywhere: eg; New Jersey, Kansas, Florida, New York, Montana, West Virginia, Oklahoma and from all over Canada, including newspapers, radio and TV stations. We truly appreciate our southern allies.

The standard reply from CEO's is that their large political donations "enhance democracy." The RFC knows how well that's working! Franchise owners are understandably concerned about the boycott, and we advise them to voice their concerns to the organization that is responsible, THE LIBERAL PARTY OF CANADA.

Unfortunately we have been verbally mislead by several company representatives, including franchise owners, bank managers, and donation departments. We have had a very hard time getting anything in writing from them. Also most employees of the companies that donate to political parties, are unaware or alarmed about this practice. In fact, many do not personally agree with it. All firearm owners must keep pressure on the companies that they deal with. Ask if they donated to the Liberal party, and get their reply in writing and pass it on to us.

As of 22 February 1996:

Spring seeding is a mega-project on the prairies. Therefore, our third initiative will be to target the agricultural sector of Liberal supporters. We do not expect to change comsumers purchasing habits in just a few weeks, but over the next few years we expect that people will ask their suppliers if they support the gun-hating Liberal/PC coalition.

Firearm ownership is a way of life in rural Canada, a distict society that is facing cultural genocide by the politically elite of Canada. Consequently, our business practises will have to become a way of life with regards to dealing with companies that do not support politicians that discriminate against us.

As of 02 Feb 1996:

25 members of the Alberta Recreational Firearms Community braved severe winter weather to close accounts totalling $1 million dollars in the Wainwright C.I.B.C. and Bank of Montreal today (Feb 1) at noon. Radio, television and print media were on hand to record the cutting up of bank cards, pass books, cheque books and other credit cards issued by Department stores already being boycotted because of their political contributions to the Liberal Party during the 1993 election campaign. Area residents are extremely upset by the passage of new firearms control legislation that criminalizes law-abiding gun owners.

Dave Nelson, President of the Responsible Firearms Owners of Alberta, indicated that the activities in Wainwright today were only the beginning of a large-scale indefinite boycott of all major business supporters of the Federal Liberals. Although a large portion of the money withdrawn from the banks today is being deposited in the Alberta Treasury Branches, Nelson warned that the money could easily be moved again if the Klein government failed firearms owners in its promise to oppose the implementation of Bill C-68 which will cost Alberta taxpayers millions of dollars to enforce!

As of 30 Jan 1996

By the end of January we know over ONE MILLION dollars will have left Liberal supporting financial institutions, with many people and organizations ready to follow when loans and deposits mature.

In a notification from the Hudson Bay Co. they admitted they donated last election and in 1994 to the Liberals, but have since discontinued all political donations in the future.

Gendis (MET, SAAN, & Fields) president has verbally notified us that their company will not be making any political donations in 1996 and emphasized that it was not because of the boycott by the RFC. We will amend the list when their position is in writing or can be verified by Elections Canada.

News of the RFC boycott has reached the United States via North America Hunting magazine Jan/Feb 1996 issue, and the Internet.

The standard reply from CEO's is that their large political donations "enhance democracy." The RFC knows how well that's working!

Many chemical companies were not ever considerate enough to return our calls. All firearm owners must keep up the pressure on the companies that we deal with; all you have to do is ask if they donated to the Liberal party, and if they say they didn't, get it in writing and pass it on to us.

We would like the RFC to start a letter/fax campaign asking WALMART if they donate to political parties. If they don't, we would like to include them in a list of stores to patronize. The following is a sample letter and be sure to let us know WALMART'S response.

The Agricultural Sector:

This list is not complete; however we hope you will continue to fight for your rights by asking all businesses you deal with if they are part of the porblem or the solution. Recommend donating to charities instead of dictators. How can they find fault with that? And please remember Bill C-68 when you vote!

Banks and Trust Companies:

Unfortunately banks, investment firms and major trust companies have used their profits to donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Liberal Party. Therefore our second VOLUNTARY boycott initiative will be to target the financial institutions. Donations enhancing the political process cannot happen when a Prime Minister strips privileges, disciplines and refuses to sign M.P.'s nomination papers for voting the way their constituents want. Also donating to the Conservatives doesn't make things right (P.C. Senate dupe), it just shows there is one gun-hating party, with two faces. Most Credit Unions and some other institutions have stayed out of the trough; ask if they support the Liberal Party. Remember: a clear message can be sent at RRSP time to one of the Liberals' biggest supporters. This is only a partial list of Financial Institutions and approximate donations made last election. Feel free to ask your bank managers for specifics; let your views be known and suggest donating the money to charities instead of gun haters. This is not only a firearm issue, it is about government passing controversial legislation undemocratically.

Retail Outlets:

The R.F.C. is announcing all-out financial retaliation on the Liberal party. The first initiative will be that several major department stores will be boycotted for supporting the Liberals financially. NO ONE STORE WILL BE SINGLED OUT AND THIS INITIATIVE IS ENTIRELY VOLUNTARY.

Feel free to contact these stores and make your views known to the manager, franchise owner AND HEAD OFFICE. Please save your credit cards from these stores, and in the future we will collect cut up cards and return them to the stores by the pound. This program commences immediately.

Other Businesses

If anyone was wondering if the RFC boycott was on the right track to restore democracy, they should read the latest edition of the Canadian Tax-payers Federation (The Tax-payer). The issue is called 13 reasons why the government should stop subsidizing business. Hundreds of businesses are identified in 50 to 60 categories, and this is just a partial list. One of the first categories is the Defence Industry Productivity Program totalling $140,974,571.00 of tax payers contributions. Why would our government believe in a defence industry when it clearly discourages individuals the right to self defence? What is most interesting about these subsidized businesses is that some of them donate to political parties. Following are a few examples to consider:

BOMBARDIER INC. Liberal contribution 1993, $45,994.32*. In fiscal year 94/95 BOMBARBIER INC. GROUPE CANADAIR received subsidies of $9,436,306.**

GENERAL ELECTRIC CANADA INC. Liberal contribution 1993, $14,522.*. In fiscal year 94/95 GENERAL ELECTRIC CANADA INC. received subsidies of $687,278.**

PRATT & WHITNEY CANADA INC. Liberal contribution 1993, $15,000.*. In fiscal year 94/95 PRATT & WHITNEY CANADA INC. received subsidies of $50,648,263.**

This is just a small sample of the unholy relationship between governments and corporations that have been going on under the guise of democracy. It's no wonder governments want control over people and private property (firearms included). Being naive and complacent about these issues is destroying our rights in Canada. It's time to kick the pigs out of the trough!

Rant off.

General and/or Background Information:

The RFC boycott has two goals:

1. We want to reduce hurt the Liberals financially because they have hurt us by passing Bill C-68

2. We want to help "clean up" politics by encouraging businesses to stop all political contributions. Since businesses can't vote, they should have influence through money. Individuals cannot compete with the kinds of funds businesses have.

I phoned one of the persons helping to organize the RFC boycott and asked him specifically about the Reform Party losing money because of the boycott.

He told me that their thinking (in designing this boycott) was (in no particular order):

  1. where a company may have given some money to all parties, the amount given to the Liberals was almost always several times greater than what was given to Reform (e.g. $150,000 versus $20,000). The Liberals will be hurt many times more than Reform, and Reform is also getting donations from many individuals because of its opposition to C-17 and C-68.
  2. telling companies "I'll only support you if you give money to X" could be viewed as something akin to extortion. (It may not be illegal, but it could make us look bad.)
  3. companies don't vote--individuals do--so we are encouraging a truer democracy by trying to remove the influence of businesses from politics. (Donations are the only way for businesses to "vote".)

The goal is "loftier" than, and transcends, the issue of "gun control". We are also talking about taking back our country and creating a better democracy. One way we can do that is to try to ensure that political donations come only from individuals.

NFA News Release

The Recreational Firearms Communities (R.F.C.) in Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba have partnered to create a political nightmare for the Liberal Chretien government should the proposed Firearms Control Act (Bill C-68) receive final assent and become law this year.

Firearms Organizations across the Prairies are working to establish a data base that will be used to guide a national boycott of all major supporters of the Liberal Party of Canada. A secondary target in their boycott strategy will be media outlets (TV, Radio and Print) that continue to propagate biased and discriminatory views regarding the gun control issue. Businesses who advertise with any media outlet identified as 'unfriendly' to the R.F.C. will also be subject to the planned boycott.

Spokespersons for the R.F.C. in all three Prairie Provinces say that the politically correct view that ordinary Canadians who legally own firearms are somehow partly responsible for crime in Canadian society is pure and simple discrimination. The prejudice that arises from the 'firearms phobia' has resulted in the current illogical and unfounded bias against the western and rural minority. The R.F.C. says it will no longer tolerate this government-sanctioned discrimination and that its boycott strategy is an unfortunate but necessary action to prevent further loss of rights and property traditionally enjoyed by all segments of Canadian society.

From: Larry Going
Subject: Statement of Purpose - RFC National Boycott

The single most important goal of the Recreational Firearms Community national boycott of businesses and institutions that support the Liberal Party of Canada is to restore the democratic process in Canadian politics.

By asking that corporate citizens refrain from making political contributions, we level the playing field by moving the responsibility for support back into the hands of individual Canadians where it belongs. Individuals cannot hope to match the level of funding offered by Canadian business and are thereby relegated to the rank of minor-league players when attempting to support the political party of their choice. The choice of government should always remain with individual Canadians -- not with corporate giants.

We are not asking businesses that support political parties for money for our cause. We are asking for support in the task of restoring democracy. If big business wants to spend their profits in the betterment of Canada, we applaud them. But political donations are counter-productive to the higher purpose of maintaining a true representative democracy. Their money would be better spent by increasing the donations to national charities or programs that enhance social and economic initiatives.

Nor do we feel that simply demanding equality of political contributions to all registered political parties in Canada to be an improvement over the present system. Even if corporate donors agreed to such a demand, all major political influence remains with big business instead of with rank and file citizens where it belongs. The noble sentiment among business heads that political donations enhance the political process by allowing parties to better express their aims and objectives is an unfortunate misconception. The practise has not in fact led to a better democracy, but rather to an increasingly weakened and manipulative system of government. No one knows this better than the Canadian Recreational Firearms Community. Your support of this national boycott initiative is therefore crucial not only to the preservation of firearms ownership in Canada, but to the preservation of fundamental democratic principles of equal representation when choosing and electing your government.

Dear Sir:

We wish you to announce the discontinuation of financial support for the Liberal Party. Unless you do, we will inform the 52 clubs and over 5,000 members belonging to the National Firearms Association in Saskatchewan of your support for the Liberals. By supporting them, you betray the Recreational Firearms Community.

We will ask our members to discontinue shopping at Sears and ask that they request their friends to do likewise.

Realize, our quarrel is not with Sears. It is with the arrogance of the Liberal Party. It is with their betrayal of a lifestyle many of us have grown up with -- target shooting and hunting.

If you do not wish to support another political party, that is entirely your business. We just ask you not to financially support the Liberals.

Yours truly,

Dear sir:

I regret to inform you that due to the passage of C-68, the "firearms bill," by the Liberal Party of Canada, I have decided to join the National Firearms Association boycott of businesses which have supported the federal Liberal party. Due to this boycott I will no longer be frequenting your stores.

I want you to know that this is not a reflection of the service your stores have provided for me. Canadian Tire has for a very long time been the first place I go for car parts and sporting goods. This boycott will cost me since I will be going to my local car dealer and sporting goods stores more often. However, I believe the cost is necessary as a part of my opposition to this extremely flawed law and the party which produced it. To demonstrate my sincerity in this action please find enclosed all my remaining Canadian Tire Dollars. [I returned them, cut up.]

Please be sure that should Canadian Tire decide to stop funding the federal Liberal party, I will once again become a Canadian Tire customer.

Sincerely,

Dear sir:

I regret to inform you that due to the passage of C-68, the "firearms bill," by the Liberal Party of Canada, I have decided to join the National Firearms Association boycott of businesses which have supported the federal Liberal party. Due to this boycott I will no longer be frequenting your stores.

Be sure that this is not a reflection of the service your stores have provided or the quality of your merchandise. Through the years I have been very pleased with both. Sears has for a long time been the first place I look for clothing and appliances. This boycott will have an adverse affect on me since it will require me to shop more at specialty stores and pay their higher prices. However, I believe this to be a necessary part of my opposition to this law and the party which produced it.

If in the future you decide that you will no longer support the federal Liberal party in a financial manner, then I will be pleased to become a Sears customer once again.

Sincerely,
